Ongoing projects

Forschung zu und für Nachhaltigkeitstransformation arbeitet häufig mit transdisziplinären Ansätzen. Das td-net hat daher gemeinsam mit den anderen Foren der Plattform Wissenschaft und Politik der SCNAT ein Projekt gestartet, das die Bedeutung von transformativer Forschung beziehungsweise von Transformationsforschung erörtert, Anwendungsbereiche aufzeigt und durch anschauliche Beispiele greifbar macht (siehe Website).

Im Jahr 2023 werden wir Grundlagen und Interaktionsformate erarbeiten, um die verschiedenen Rollen der Wissenschaft in Transformationsprozessen hin zu einer nachhaltigeren Gesellschaft zu reflektieren und zu diskutieren.

td-net is a founding member and initiator of the global ITD Alliance and provides the secretariat for the Alliance in the start-up phase.

td-net is co-initiator of this global working group with the aim of creating an overview of methods and tools for cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral cooperation. The working group discusses existing toolkits and those to be (further) developed in the future and deals with questions of quality, benefit and evidence of impact of method applications.

Die Forschung der Fachhochschulen orientiert sich an den Grundprinzipen der transdisziplinären Forschung, und dennoch sind die Forschenden der Fachhochschulen in der TD-Community untervertreten. Wir beobachten, dass die universitären Hochschulen und ETHs nach mehr Praxisrelevanz streben und Partnerschaften mit Gesellschaftsakteuren und -akteurinnen mühsam aufbauen, während an Fachhochschulen der akademische Aspekt der transdisziplinären Forschung nicht genügend berücksichtigt scheint und Forschungsprojekte allzu stark in der sogenannt «angewandten» (Auftrags-)Forschung verwurzelt sind. – Ist diese Beobachtung richtig? Warum ist dies so und stimmen die Rahmenbedingungen, um die Qualität transdiziplinärer Forschung in der Schweiz bei allen beteiligten Wissenschaftlerinnen bzw. Wissenschaftlern und Hochschultypen zu verbessern?

With the Initiative for Sustainability Research, SCNAT, together with its sister institutions, is advancing science on sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda. It pays particular attention to jointly addressing societal priority issues in overarching consortia.

The td-net is actively involved in the design and development of the project (at the level of the office but also through the participation of the advisory board members Jakob Zinsstag, Janet Hering and Christian Pohl).

Inter- and transdisciplinary (ITD) research approaches appear promising for tackling the complex issues of our time. However, their adequate funding poses new challenges for funding organisations. On the one hand, ITD research needs to be integrated into existing funding schemes, and on the other, programmes need to be explicitly geared towards it. Both require the reorganisation or restructuring of established processes, e.g. tendering procedures or review processes. In order to improve funding practice, the td-net is considering setting up a working group for exchange between the organisations that already fund ITD research today. To this end, the td-net is conducting a feasibility study in cooperation with the target group of such a working group. According to the initial idea, this working group should primarily establish a transfer of know-how and do-how with regard to appropriate evaluation and monitoring procedures and thus contribute to the quality assurance of current and future ITD research and its social impact and support its member organisations in their activities.

The research results of the SWEET programme should be incorporated into our future energy systems and everyday life. For this reason, society, industry and politics must be involved in the research work from the outset in a transdisciplinary approach. The funded consortia are required to establish structures and processes that make this possible. Together with the SWEET Office, the td-net supports the consortia in this task (see interview with Theres Paulsen). For the SWEET Call 1-2024, the td-net has developed a document with practical tips on how to get started. During the preparation of full proposals, consortia will be invited to a workshop. Ongoing consortia can apply for further support on specific topics of interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity. In addition, the td-net supports the design and implementation of a synthesis process for the SWEET programme. This process will integrate recommendations from the funded consortia and communicate them to policy makers.

Im Projekt «pasa-bene: Pflegende Angehörige bei der Spitex anstellen: Dialog und gute Praxis fördern» unterstützt das td-net zusammen mit Science et Cité und a+ Swiss Platform Ageing Society den Verein rethinking care. Ziel des Projekts ist es, mit einem partizipativen, transdisziplinären Ansatz die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven der Zielgruppen aufzuzeigen, diese zusammenzubringen und gemeinsames Lernen zu ermöglichen sowie aufbauend auf den Ergebnissen nutzerfreundliche Informationspakete und Dialogformate zu entwickeln, die eine Diskussion über die Projektlaufzeit hinaus fördern sollen. Zu diesem Zweck konzipiert und moderiert das td-net vier Werkstattgespräche mit unterschiedlichen thematischen Schwerpunkten und entsprechenden Zielgruppen und trägt damit zu einer vertieften Diskussion des Erwerbsmodells und seiner Innovation und Weiterentwicklung in der Praxis bei

The Wyss Academy for Nature, based on the realization that a systematic approach is needed to solve complex problems and make the future more sustainable, asks itself, among other things, how research, in addition to understanding systems and their transformations, can itself drive sustainability transformations. The td-net supports the Wyss Academy for Nature in getting to the bottom of these questions and identifying what knowledge and experience in the field of “science of systems transformation” and “transformative science” is already available at the Wyss Academy for Nature and comparing it with the current state-of-the-art. Based on research and interviews (with other research institutions working in this field), td-net will organize an event together with the Wyss Academy to collect and systematically bring together knowledge and experience. In addition to concrete recommendations on how the transformative aspect and impact of the Wyss Academy for Nature's research can be strengthened, research gaps will also be identified. The findings will be made available to a wider public and thus support other institutions in contributing to a transformation towards sustainability as well.
