Intelligent art?  AI and human creativity

TA-Swiss

Materials, tools and technologies have always shaped artistic creation and opened doors to new forms of expression But now applications that claim to have "artificial intelligence" are entering the fray. How will they affect the lives and work of artists?

This is the topic of the podium hosted by HEK (House of Electronic Arts Basel) and TA-SWISS, the Swiss Foundation for Technology Assessment. Eva Pauline Bossow, Head of Transfer at the Zurich Center for Creative Economies, Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), will discuss with Ramona Sprenger ((Think & Do Tank Dezentrum), Esther Hunziker (artist), Stefano Kunz (Swiss Music Council) and Ueli Grüter (copyright expert, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

A pre-discussion workshop will allow you to try out applications such as ChatGPT and DALL-E and see for yourself what they can and cannot do.

Wednesday, 26 February 2025, workshop 16:00 – 17:30, podium 18:00 - 19:30, HEK, Freilager-Platz 9, 4142 Münchenstein/Basel. Details here.

Team Science Workshop

Team Science Consulting

With new discoveries and technologies over the past few decades, we have seen an exponential increase in the scale and complexity of scientific research.  Funding agencies have responded by shifting more and more resources into collaborative research.  The result has been more team science being done by both small and large teams, rather than individual researchers. Collaborations bring additional challenges, both to the researchers and to individuals managing projects, programs, and teams.  Whether you are a PI, a project/program manager or a research development professional, questions abound:  How do you shift culture and behavior while also effectively managing resources, people and ideas?  What are the first steps to creating an effective team where everyone is on the same page?  How do you manage those inevitable “itchy-scratchy” moments?  The goal of this workshop is to provide you with tools to put evidence-based Science of Team Science (SciTS) research into practice with your team(s).  This foundational knowledge will provide you with a variety of insights, skills, and resources you can take back to your team(s) and immediately put into practice.  (FYI - Advanced topic workshops coming in 2026)

Project Management for Scientists

CSCCE

This two hour session provides an overview of the key concepts you can use in describing collaborative projects. You will leave the session able to describe what a project is and the relationship between projects and operations. We’ll also discuss the three types of projects and their relationship to uncertainty and complexity. Finally, we will explore the competencies of an effective project leader, whatever their job title. Please note that we also offer a longer-form Project Management for Scientists training that significantly expands on the topics covered in this Mini-workshop, and sets you up to put many of these principles into practice using Harvard Business Review’s Project Canvas.
