Academic Program Director for Interdisciplinary Studies Program Institution: Walden University Department: Center for Undergraduate Studies


Job Description: The Center for Undergraduate Studies will appoint an Academic Program Director for the B.S. Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, who is excited about and forward thinking about the future of interdisciplinary studies in a distance learning environment. The Academic Program Director is a full-time academic administrator and member of the faculty of the Center for Undergraduate Studies who will function as part of the leadership team with the Executive Director. Duties and responsibilities will include: € Working closely with the Center¹s and University¹s academic administrators, academic advising and administrative staffs, and full and part-time interdisciplinary studies faculty of the Center for Undergraduate Studies. € Maintaining quality and integrity of the interdisciplinary studies curriculum. € Coordinating faculty recruitment, orientation, and other on-boarding activities related to the interdisciplinary studies program. € Managing the resolution of student issues and matters of governance occurring within interdisciplinary studies classes, e.g. academic dishonesty, grade appeals; etc. € Leading and coordinating the Center¹s ongoing assessment of the interdisciplinary studies curriculum and contributions to the LORBook (Learning Outcomes Review). € In association with the academic program director for general education, coordinating duties and development of Lead Faculty to provide effective communication and coordination among faculty units in compliance with implementation of the new Lead Faculty Model. € Coordinating faculty development with Lead Faculty and CUGS/CFE Faculty Development and Quality Specialist. € Developing and maintaining community among general education faculty and students. € Teaching as needed in interdisciplinary areas including the Undergraduate Module of new faculty orientation. As undergraduate programs and initiatives are developing and changing rapidly, the Academic Program Director may need to assume additional and/or changed duties as needed. Qualifications: Leadership competencies needed include: knowledge of the business, management skills, teamwork, accountability, integrity, problem-solving/critical thinking, communication skills. Education and/or experience that the Academic Program Director will possess: € Earned doctorate in interdisciplinary studies or an interdisciplinary content area such as American studies, ethnic studies, and other area studies in the social sciences, natural sciences, or humanities. € Significant record of intellectual and professional contributions to his/her discipline. € Significant undergraduate teaching experience. € Commitment to the advocating for the learning and development needs of adult students earning their degree in a distance learning environment. € Significant teaching, advising and mentoring; commitment to the promotion of the scholarship of teaching, and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty; leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills. € Experience in faculty development and evaluation models. € Experience with distance learning. € Experience with regional accreditation (HLC/NCA). € Demonstrated evidence of compatibility with the Walden University mission of positive social change, broad access, and professional excellence and our values of quality, integrity, and student-centeredness. € Relevant administrative experience highly preferred.
